Adalia Aborisade is a dedicated minimalist whose life is guided by three simple rules: ⁣ 1) defy convention ⁣ 2) embrace adventure ⁣ 3) regret nothing. ⁣ ⁣ In 2016, she packed up her then 15-year-old daughter, canine sidekick, and sewing machine for a move to Honduras. She's never looked back. ⁣ ⁣ Adalia blogs primarily about her experiences living abroad and traveling solo. She hopes that her work will help aspiring travelers and those who dream of becoming expats realize that the world is truly within their reach.

  • “LIFE IS SHORT AND THE WORLD IS WIDE.”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You'll never be as young as you now so stop waiting for "someday" to pursue the life you want and do the damn thing NOW.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Here are 3 things you can do today to get on track.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
1. REFLECT - Ask yourself some tough questions about how you really feel about your current situation. Be honest about what is working for you and what is not.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2. VISUALIZE - Create an image of the life you want. This could be by journaling about your perfect day or maybe making a vision board.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
3. ACT - Do something! Make a plan that includes the steps you need to bring your vision to life and take action, even if it's something small one. A small step forward is still progress.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Whatever you do, don't throw in the towel on your dreams. It is never too late to live a life of your own design. I'm living proof of that 😉.⁣⁣

⁣
Around this time of year, there is always lots of talk about bout the upcoming new year...you know the whole "new year, new me" thing.⁣
⁣
Well, for 2020 I WILL CONTINUE to be the same old me⁣:
⁣
I WILL CONTINUE to defy convention.⁣
⁣
I WILL CONTINUE to embrace adventure.⁣
⁣
I WILL CONTINUE to regret nothing.⁣
⁣
I WILL CONTINUE to make the most of my second chance.⁣
⁣
What about you? What will you continue in 2020?⁣

  • “It’s not happiness that brings us gratitude. It’s gratitude that brings us happiness.” ⁣
⁣
I am grateful to be enjoying what is likely to be the last bit of sun and warm weather for the next few months.⁣
⁣
Because I arrived to China in late February, I missed the "real winter" although it was still freezing.⁣
⁣
So instead of fretting about how I will survive snow, sleet, and single-digit temperatures, I will enjoy a morning bike ride with my homegirl.⁣

  • The universe decided to remind me that I'm not Superwoman.⁣
⁣
I've been sick for the last week. Fever, sniffles, sneezing, itchy eyes, ridiculous amounts of mucus, persistent cough, the works.⁣
⁣
Oh, the coughing!⁣
⁣
I've coughed so much that I should have a 6-pack by now. My stomach is sore. My throat feels like sandpaper. My voice goes in and out.

All of this with no relief in sight since I don't know the Chinese word for cough drop.⁣ ⁣
I get sick maybe once a year so here's hoping this is it for the next 12 months.⁣
⁣
Do you have any sore throat or coughing remedies for me? If so, PLEASE share.⁣

  • My timeline is full of posts about the upcoming 3-day weekend. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I was a little more confused than usual since I know it's not a holiday here in China. ⁣
⁣
Google Calendar (which still thinks I live in Mexico) was kind enough to remind me that Monday is the Revolution Day holiday.⁣
⁣
Lots of amazing and crazy things happened during the Revolution but I know not everyone is the history buff that I am, so I'll give you the short version.⁣
⁣
Officially, the Mexican Revolution began on November 20, 1910, lasted for 10 years and is often referred to as the Mexican Civil war. This is the how Mexico went from a dictatorship to a constitutional republic.⁣
⁣
In this picture, I'm seated in front of the Alegoría de la Revolución by Eduardo Solares, one of the many murals in Chapultepec Castle (once home to the emperor of Mexico). It depicts the various groups (and there were a lot of them) that helped oust the dictator, Porfirio Díaz.⁣
⁣
Is history something you explore when you travel? Or is that too much like school and not enough like a vacation? Let me know in the comments ✍🏽⁣
  • “Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen.”– Orhan Pamuk ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
One of the reasons I chose to move to Mexico City was its reputation for being dog-friendly. There were lots of parks, dog-friendly restaurants, cafes, and transportation options. Chilangos just love dogs and it showed in every random interaction we had with people on the street.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I wish I could say the same for Hefei (China) but unfortunately, I can't. While many people do have dogs as pets, I would not call it a "friendly" place at all.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Daily we have interactions with people of all ages who run or lunge out of the way as if I was about to unleash an attack dog on them when all we did was walk by 🙄. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I find it frustrating and honestly, quite irritating. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It is especially irritating since stray dogs are often allowed to wander around but my well behaved, good-natured dog on a leash is cause for panic. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Just this weekend we went to the Binhu Wetlands Forest Park and were harassed by security guards when locals with dogs were not. It seems that belonging to a foreigner makes my dog a threat. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I think I'm starting to lose it, just a little bit. The last few times that people have reacted stupidly to Mia, I've said to them loudly and in English "MY DOG DOES NOT WANT YOU". I doubt anyone understands me but it does make me feel marginally better.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Is your city dog-friendly?⁣⁣
